We had no trouble finding a nearby parking spot, and the food was good. I’d recommend the garlic & cheese bread, PAN SEARED SALMON and YELLOW PRAWN CURRY. I stayed in room 6: the bed was comfy, there was an extra pillow and blanket, and the aircon and ceiling fan were welcome. It had a bar fridge, kettle, tea and coffee, and complimentary long life milk portions. The shared bathroom had two separate showers and a separate toilet, all clean and supplied with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. One thing to know is that pub noise carries into this room. Saturday music went until 3am, but I didn’t find it too intrusive. The door was tricky to close when leaving because there’s no handle on the outside.

The water smelled awful, whether we were showering or washing our faces, and left us feeling dirty. There was used soap for guests, which was unhygienic and unacceptable. German cockroaches were everywhere, including a whole family with eggs right beside the coffee mugs. If the room was being cleaned every day, I don’t understand how that was missed. This was a very, very worst experience. We chose the hotel because it was presented as suitable for families. I know it’s a “bar hotel,” but that doesn’t remove the basic expectations of a family friendly place. The infestation, foul water, and used soap are especially troubling with children, who may be more vulnerable to allergens, bacteria, and respiratory problems from cockroach droppings. Dirty soap and water can also cause skin infections or worse. A holiday should be relaxing, not a fight for basic hygiene. I went away to unwind, and this became one of the most disappointing trips ever. If the hotel can’t keep the place to a minimum standard of cleanliness, I strongly suggest restricting stays to adults only, 18+. Really, no guest should have to put up with this, whatever their age. Save your money and health and avoid the place unless cleaning and pest control are completely overhauled.

Organising our group gathering was easy, and everyone had a fantastic time. The staff were attentive and accommodating, with everything smoothly arranged from start to finish. Our booking at the The Commonwealth Hotel went off without a hitch. Highly recommend it for groups!

The courtyard is beautiful, but there were tonnes of flies. The food was amazing, and the schnitzel was huge and coeliac safe. The server didn’t know which options were gluten free and had to check with the kitchen, which was kind of weird.

The staff were great, and those cocktails were the best I’ve had in ages. We walked in after a last minute stay nearby with low expectations, but the food was bloody delicious. Hoping to come back!
