Matthew Flinders Motor Inn

There was plenty of room in the drive-through car park for our trailer and small van, and the grounds and pool were kept tidy. The motel was quite full, but our clean room had no dog smell. It's close to town and right by the highway, though set back enough to stay quiet. Pets are welcome in the designated pet-friendly rooms, and there's a good area for them to exercise.

The pool was popular with several families in the heat, and the grounds looked beautiful. Christine welcomed me warmly and was glad to help with dinner and drinks. I had a very nice fish, chips and salad. The unit has an older style, which was a nice trip back to earlier fashions, while the cleaning was exceptional. Great hosts, and one of the better places to stay in Coonabarabran. I'd definitely return.

We ordered a pizza ahead of time and had it brought to our room; room service is available, and drinks can be bought at reception. I do hope the owners bring back the restaurant, since on earlier visits we'd enjoyed its good meals and service after a long drive on the Newell Highway. The Matthew Flinders Motel is on the highway, a short drive from Coonabarabran's centre, and this wasn't our first stay. Service was again good. There's ample open-air parking, and the single-level layout makes access easier for people with disabilities. It's pet-friendly, with some rooms set aside for pets, and the large saltwater pool was in pristine condition and looked great for families. I'll stay again, and would love to see the restaurant open.

We had a really enjoyable stay. The room had lots of space and was comfortable, with a sofa, a good bed, microwave and fridge. Thoughtful extras included wine glasses, a bottle opener and a chilled beer glass in the fridge. The towels were huge and the shower worked really well. The pool looked inviting, and there were things for kids to do. A great stop whether you're passing through or staying in Coonabarabran.
