The spa cabin was roomy and comfortable, and we loved being right inside the National Park. We spotted plenty of wildlife around the grounds. Getting to the lodge and restaurants means walking along the fantastic wooden paths. They have some lighting and provide umbrellas, but bring a torch if you want to spot animals along the way. The Highlands restaurant dinner was fine, though overpriced, and the staff were lovely. The pub felt much more casual, with a wider menu and good hearty food at a fairer price. There’s no WiFi in the rooms, only at reception. You can buy a national parks bus ticket to Cradle Mountain, and the stop is an easy walk from the hotel. It’s a pricey stay, but you’re paying for the location. I’d happily return if I’m back in Tasmania.

The cabin fireplace needs resealing. A lot of smoke came back into our room. Also, the Highland restaurant was closed for dinner on both nights of our stay. The rest of the experience was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the cabin had generous complimentary treats. We saw wombats, echidnas and pademelons on the property. The facilities were good, with a cozy lounge and fireplaces, and the Tavern Bar & Bistro had a great atmosphere.

The trails and scenery were a real highlight, with plenty of walks to choose from and wildlife like wombats and wallabies all around. Food was great and the service excellent. It felt a little overpriced, more like 5 star rates for a 4 star hotel, but we still had a great stay.

Seeing wallabies and wombats wandering around the grounds made the stay even better. The location is amazing, and the walking trails are stunning. We had such a good time, we’ll have to come back in winter and see the place in the snow.

Please do your homework before booking. We paid $2750 for two rooms for two nights, and the rooms were dated, worn and dirty. I’ve stayed in all sorts of accommodation around Australia, including very remote places, and this felt like a lack of pride in the property and care for the guest experience. There are better quality options just a few minutes away, and they aren’t as expensive. Location came up in the positive reviews, but it didn’t make up for the rooms for us. The staff are just doing their jobs, and I don’t blame them. Something feels seriously wrong at the management or ownership level. I can’t see the revenue going back into the facilities. Even at $200 a night, I would have left, and we did leave as soon as we checked in and saw the rooms. We received a full refund, which I truly appreciated, and booked a beautiful hotel very close by. This place has potential, but management and owners need to bring it up to the standard of nearby competitors. Customer experience and word of mouth matter, and I hope more people speak up about what they found unacceptable.
