This is pretty much the end of the road on the east coast, apart from Cooktown. Rainforest everywhere, crocodiles in plenty of the waterways, and the big barramundi is here!

We spent three nights here and the gardens were so lush. The cabins were clean, tidy, nicely presented and fairly well equipped. Anna was fantastic, always happy to help and make us feel welcome. Breakfast on the deck came with a beautiful view across the pool to the charming farmland beyond, with cows wandering about and all kinds of birds around us. It’s very eco-friendly too. We spotted a green tree snake snoozing on a rafter by the gutter, along with quite a few lovely green frogs, a good sign the environment is doing well. Definitely worth a stay, with lots to see and do just a short walk away.

Anna was welcoming and kind, even offering to cook us dinner later if we wanted. We appreciated that, and headed out to explore after quickly leaving our luggage in the room. When we got back it was pitch dark and everything was closed, so we thought we’d eat in the cabin and watch TV. That’s when we noticed the state of the place. The toilet lid fell off when we lifted it, and the toilet sink and shower were dirty, with a large dried-up ball of hair on the shower floor. The furniture was old and smelled damp. The drawers with cups and small plates didn’t look clean, the TV didn’t work, and the blinds were moldy. The bed pillows were stained, the sheets didn’t look completely clean, the ceiling fan looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned in ages, and there was dust on the floor, especially by the bed. We couldn’t bring ourselves to eat there, barely slept, and waited until early morning to leave without even showering. Breakfast was included, but no thank you. I’m sorry to write this, but paying for accommodation in that condition is unacceptable, however nice, chatty and friendly the host is. I wouldn’t want anyone else to end up in the same situation. Sorry, host.

The owner shared some useful suggestions for things to do nearby. We also enjoyed breakfast on the main building’s deck with another couple, swapping stories. Our cabin was very comfortable, and we had a very nice stay at this lovely spot on the Daintree River.

We had a great stay, with very clean rooms and comfortable beds. Breakfast was lovely, with fresh fruit, and they’ll make whatever you feel like eating. Paul and Lynn also know the area well and can point you to good places to visit, things to do and places to eat. Definitely stay at least two nights!
