Dampier Mermaid Hotel Karratha

The staff were friendly, the location was great, and the meals were good. It’s dog friendly too. I stayed in Nov 25 and would definitely come back when visiting Dampier or Karratha.

The accommodation itself isn't much to write home about, though the deck has a nice ocean view. The pub has a great working class feel, with all female bar staff. The food was fab, but expensive.

The meals were a real letdown. The pepperoni pizza was greasy, sloppy, cheap tasting and very poor quality, while the kids' nuggets and chips were a tiny portion and poor quality too. We used to stay here over the years and the property and food were excellent, so it was disappointing to find the cleanliness, presentation and meals at such low standards this time. We checked in a few hours before sending the email below and got no reply when we tried to contact the property. The room was in very poor shape: dirty floors, mould in the shower, stained doors, grime around the floors and walls, a broken lampshade with no bulb, and a bathroom door handle that was broken. The tea and coffee setup was barely there, with no spoon or milk and a dirty cup. There was only a thin throw sheet on the bed, no doona or thick blanket. Outside, the rear seating area was filthy, with the bench, chairs and table apparently not wiped down, and lots of rubbish beyond it. We paid over $250 a night, which made the experience especially disgusting and disappointing. I took plenty of photos and can email them if you'd like to inspect or address the complaints. I hope this feedback is considered and that standards rise above the bare minimum in future.
