Barkala Farmstay

We stayed at Kelly's Campground, which was tidy, felt safe, and welcomed pets. The pottery gift shop and cafe sit in a lovely garden with kangaroos around. Such a great bush oasis. We’ll definitely come back 🙂

There are plenty of farm trails to wander, and the birdlife was amazing. The place is spacious and well kept.

The kids loved the shaded pool in the afternoons, and feeding the chickens, goats, sheep and little pony at feeding time was a highlight. We also had a German dinner at the cafe, with schnitzel, bratwurst and homemade gelato. My favourite part was the pottery wheel class. The instructor was so patient while showing me how to make a cup, and I’m keen to see it once it’s dried and ready to be posted. We came for a sunny week away from the coast at the end of January, trying a country break that was new for us and the kids. From the deck of our farmhouse room, the views were panoramic, and there was a huge grassy yard for the kids, edged by an immaculate garden and a pen with a small group of cows that were always happy to see us. We spent the days exploring the Pilliga and visiting the nearby Warrumbungles, then looked up at a huge sky full of clearly visible stars at night. Thanks to Maria and family and everyone who keeps this fantastic place going. We can’t wait to return.

They rang twice to make sure I could find the place, then called again to check I’d have something to eat after arriving late. While I was putting my horse in the paddock for the night, they brought a hot pizza right to my room. Lovely people and a really cool place. Thanks for having me. Next time I hope to stay longer than one night.
