Great soundtrack, food and drinks brought right to us, and no need to head to the bar. The little balcony over the street crossing is awesome. You used to catch a bit of winter sun there, but the new ECU building now puts it in the afternoon shade. Great spot and service.

On Friday I stopped by The Royal Hotel, an iconic pub in the heart of Perth that’s been through its share of ups and downs. The special that day was a simple chicken roll with chips and gravy, a treat for $20. Staff were warm, welcoming, and knew their stuff. They seemed committed to making sure guests enjoyed the wide tap selection and tasty menu.

Lunch on the balcony is lovely, watching the city go by. The Caesar salad was excellent, with fresh anchovy and a good balance of ingredients, not drowned in dressing. The SB on offer was great too. Staff were super friendly, with big smiles and bright attitudes.

Nice atmosphere and fine for a drink, but I wouldn’t order the steak and chips again, especially at full price. I had it as a $30 special. The wait was around 40 minutes, though that’s understandable if they had fewer staff on. The steak came medium rare as requested, but was unseasoned and tasted like plain meat thrown on a grill. The char wasn’t pleasant, the garlic butter had no flavour, and the fries were barely salted. The salad was good.

The spot near Perth's bus station makes it handy to get to, and it stays open later than some nearby pubs that shut at 10. I liked sitting outside on the balcony. You can order at the bar or through the app, and on one of my two visits there seemed to be table service too. Drinks were reasonably priced.
