The hostel was decent, and my room was far enough from the pub that its soundproofing kept the noise out. It is very loud right beside the pub, though. I arrived in Darwin at 12:30 AM and requested a late check-in, but got the reply, “subject to availability,” which seemed strange. Lots of flights arrive around midnight, so there should be a proper process. They could leave the key in an envelope in a box outside, with my name, room number and floor, then send me the box code through the booking app or website. That would make late check-in much easier. Fix your management!

The staff were incredibly rude, especially when I was checking out. They had no patience with me, and management should seriously consider replacing them. The rooms are small, but the beds are comfortable enough. The air conditioning is good, each bunk has a curtain, and having a sink in the room is great. People there are generally sociable. Being close to all the bars is handy on the weekend, but if you’re staying in, the constant loud bass and music really sucks.

The location is top, but I can’t recommend staying there. The rooms are pretty basic and the floors a little dirty. What bothered me most were several signs of people who, in my understanding, shouldn’t be allowed back in the building, linked to the broken fridges. That made me feel unsafe. The music itself isn’t loud in the rooms. I should add that the employees are very nice and helpful.

I’d come back when I’m in Darwin again. It’s easy to walk to everything, and the hostel’s right by the bars. I came on my own but ended up meeting heaps of people hanging out by the pool and at the free dinners and fun night activities. It’s not fancy, but it has a real family feel, and the staff make you feel welcome and help you get sorted. The vibes are 10/10.
