The Lodge at the Denmark Hotel

There’s no reception, service desk, or hotel manager. That may suit people who prefer little interaction, but I don’t understand the high price for one night in a low-quality room with no services. They should change the name from The Lodge Hotel to Motel. The bathroom flooded after every shower and stayed that way all night and the next day. We couldn’t use the toilet or sink without getting our feet wet. The bathroom floor looks like amateur work done without much care. The room my wife and I had also had a concrete floor and a hard, sharp mat that hurt to step on barefoot, especially when getting up to use the bathroom. The TV was the only thing that worked efficiently with the Wi-Fi. Parking was difficult because it’s first come, first served, so we had to leave the car at the park across the road. The lot for reserved rooms was full of potholes, and you have to watch out or risk needing a new tyre.

Bring your own air con. I can’t believe this place has no air conditioning in 2025. Luckily, I had a portable cooling compressor to plug in. It’s a shame because the room is cute and the staff are lovely, but I feel for anyone staying in summer. How hard would it be to install a split system?

The bistro was fabulous, and the food was great. There’s also a bespoke bottle shop with local wines and produce, which was perfect for picking up refreshments to take away. Staff were friendly, shared useful tips on beaches and sights to see, and the rooms had clean, charming character. The Lodge at the Denmark Hotel was a delight, and I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone exploring this remarkable area. We loved the location too.

The rooms were comfortable and modern, and the pub was excellent. Locals told us the owners had done an amazing job transforming a town icon. We couldn’t fault our time at the Lodge and will be back soon. Thanks to all the staff for being so welcoming and hospitable.
