Daria was running around with a huge smile, even while dealing with some difficult customers. She’s fantastic, and still makes great coffee under pressure. I stopped in after Christmas and was surprised to see so many people up here. Great location, and it’s awesome to have somewhere open in summer.

There are bikes to hire for exploring the local sights, and maps for wandering the nearby tracks. The rooms are comfortable and have everything needed to cook, though there’s also a fantastic restaurant and really good coffee. In summer, I love sitting outside with a Prosecco and laid-back music. After a busy year, this is where I come to relax.

The staff were very friendly, and the venue itself is pleasant, which made the food disappointing. I paid $38 for ravioli and got a tiny serving. It was bland, unseasoned, mushy, and falling apart at a touch, almost as if it had been microwaved. The Chicken Parma was just as disappointing, with a very thin, sandwich-sized schnitzel that seemed likely to be imported. We were visiting and wanted to support local businesses, so it’s a shame they seemed to be cutting so many corners with the food.

We didn’t stay in the accommodation, so I can’t comment on that. The restaurant has a reasonable range of dishes and desserts, and there’s a decent selection of drinks, though the choices are limited. The bar is cosy, with comfortable lounge seats and spaced-out areas that give you some privacy. Staff were a little thin on the ground, but that’s expected in the quiet summer off-season. Club Wyndham Dinner Plain is a relaxed place outside snow season.

The Christmas decorations were so beautiful, it felt like being in the Austrian Alps. Order the Thai beef salad for lunch! Daria was an outstanding waitress. We put her drink-order skills to the test, and she went above and beyond. We’ll be telling all our friends down the mountain to make the day trip up.
