I had a terrible time dealing with the host and Airbnb. I booked for the New Year holidays and paid almost $1,000 as a deposit, then had to cancel for personal reasons. I told the host two months before the booking date, but couldn't get the deposit back, even though the listing said there was a 50% refund for cancellations by 22nd Dec. The host said Airbnb was holding the money. Airbnb told me the host had received it and they couldn't help. I think the whole thing was very unprofessional and a scam.

The house itself was beautiful, in a very good location, and reasonably priced for four people. Just bear in mind it's an ordinary-looking house with no sign. The owner answers promptly, or returns calls and texts if she can't pick up. At arrival, though, we were asked to pay right away outside the house without being shown the room, since there's no reception. I had to ask several times for a receipt and booking confirmation. We ended up showering in cold water because there was no hot water. The owner apologized and said she'd called maintenance, but it was late and she couldn't work out why, so I think the gas bottle may have run out. No partial refund was offered. We were offered a free night if we return, but it's a long way from home, so that's unlikely. Cleanliness was average, basically wiped clean, but it needed a deeper clean, and the kettle filter needed cleaning too. I hope this is taken into account for the comfort and value of future guests.
