Plainsman Motel

The beds were extremely comfortable, and the pillows were the softest I've slept on, much appreciated after a long day's drive. The two bedroom apartment was surprisingly big and immaculately presented, with a nice little kitchenette. It was quiet at the back of the property, and every room had air conditioning. Plenty of motels promise fast free Wi-Fi but don't deliver, so we were very happy with the Wi-Fi at the Plainsman. I'd definitely stay again when passing through.

The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean, but the pillows smelled so bad we used our own and slept on top of the sheets. Towels were clean. The bathroom was appalling, with a broken shower screen, stained curtain and filthy floor splattered with paint. The white bath mat got dirty after one use because of the floor. The room was hot and had a strong unpleasant smell. The air conditioner was off and gave off a foul odour when we turned it on, though it eventually cooled the room. We laid dog pads over the floor and cleaned the surfaces before unpacking because the room felt unhygienic, and I was worried our show dogs would pick something up. The passageway to the room was dirty and lined with spiders. The pool was nothing like the advertised photos, it was murky, dirty and full of debris and insects, completely unusable. We paid $163 for one night at The Plainsman Motel while travelling across Australia with our two small, well groomed dogs. For a 3 star motel in such a remote location, that already felt expensive. At 6pm, after an 8 hour drive, we were told there was also a $25 dog sanitation fee, making the total $188. We were told Booking.com had notified us of the charge, which wasn't true. We paid because we were exhausted and had no alternative. The advertised Wi-Fi only works in certain rooms. Guests in the rear rooms effectively have no access despite paying the same rate. Photos are attached. Booking platforms need to monitor standards more closely, since this place doesn't match its advertised condition.

Clean, good and pet friendly. My Prado with its roof pod had 2.5 m clearance. There's a very nice bakery right across the road for an early start. I'll definitely book again.

We had a good meal at the club across the road, and the motel was welcoming and really quiet. We booked a premium room, which was very clean and had a new bathroom. They’d even thought of little extras, like a windscreen cleaner for getting bugs off before you drive away.
