Apt 1 made a good base, and its location was great. It was clean, comfortable, and spacious, with all the facilities available, though quite dated. Getting to it at the back of the property involved twists, turns, and steep stairs. There’s a small dangerous step at the top that really needs to be pointed out. I was disappointed by the pool area as a place to relax, and I cut my foot on shards of glass.

I liked the old Queenslander building and the location, but some of the renovations don’t feel up to four-star standard. The shower setup and air con positioned above the toilet were odd, and our bed needed replacing. With some care and attention, it could earn five stars.

A great place to stay, right on the Esplanade and just a five-minute walk from shopping in Cairns city. Cairns hospital is right next door.

This was a very disappointing experience, and not how guests should be treated. I booked accommodation through Agoda, then John, the owner, contacted me to say it wasn’t suitable for us because two people would be in one room. After we spoke, he rebooked it for the dates we needed. A couple of weeks later I got another email saying the booking was cancelled, and that was sorted out again. Then, more than a month after the original booking, John emailed once more to cancel it due to a business matter.
