The beach is just steps away, and the small village nearby was lovely, with plenty of restaurants and bars, including a couple on site overlooking the ocean. We’d happily recommend this accommodation and return to the Cairns area. We visited in January 2026 and had a two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen and washer/dryer. Our ground-floor patio opened onto the gardens, trees, pool and hot tub. It felt especially tropical at dusk, when the birds made a sound like knocking on the trees. We looked it up and found it was a large nightjar. Staff were all very nice and helpful. There’s on-site parking, and we were assigned a covered space for our unit. There’s also parking out front. The signs said those spaces were for retail and restaurants, but we were told hotel guests could use them too. Reception hours are limited, so I presume you’d need to arrange check-in if arriving after supper.

The pool was a real highlight, and the staff were super lovely. We had a great time at Drift, Palm Cove. I’d done some research to find a local place close to everything within our budget, but reviews mentioning possible mold had made me nervous. We needn’t have worried. The hallways are a bit worn and hospital-like, but the rooms and resort amenities were amazing, clean and fresh, with everything we needed.

The pool area was great, and the room on the fourth floor was nice, with a comfy bed and all the amenities we needed. Shops and restaurants are close by. I’d recommend it and stay again.

Our apartment was huge, with amazing views over the ocean and Nauru on the corner. The pool was amazing too. Loved our stay in Palm Cove, and we’ll be back.

Drift Resort takes a bit of figuring out, with its maze-like layout and different exits, but we got used to it. The location makes it well worth staying, close to the beach, restaurants, walking routes and other useful amenities. The big connected pool is pretty inviting too. The rooms are very nice and large. Our apartment could use a light above the dining table.
