Gibraltar House

We had no phone reception at the house, but there’s a signposted spot about five minutes’ drive away where you can pull over and make a call. For safety, there’s also a landline 10 metres from the house. The place was an incredible deal, cheaper than some campsites we’ve stayed at, and it’s a two-bedroom house. Both bedrooms were comfortable, with a good bathroom, a great kitchen and a wood fire in the lounge. It’s a handy base for bushwalking, spotting wildlife, mountain biking and paddling the amazing Mann River. You can drive to Jackadgery to hire gear or book a one-way drop-off for a full day kayaking downstream. Bring layers because it can get a little cool, and pack things to entertain the kids in the evenings, though after a full day outside they tend to fall straight into bed. A day drive to Glen Innes is a must.
