Gladstone Downtown Central Apartment Hotel

The worst thing I found was a plastic bag covering the smoke alarm. The room also had rude signs, and staff apparently charge if they have to help when you're locked out. It feels like they make no effort for guests. There are lots of stairs and no lift, old worn furniture, uncomfortable beds and badly stained carpet. Housekeeping hadn't cleaned properly, with sticky surfaces and grime and dust throughout the kitchen. Even family rooms only got two tiny bottles of soap and one rubbish bag. There was so little cutlery that not everyone could have a fork, and no spare pillows or blankets. I won't stay again. It's a privilege to have guests willing to come here, not a privilege for the cleaners to do their job.

The main problem was the ground-floor noise. People coming and going, plus early conversations in the foyer and reception each morning, woke me up as the sound carried through the walls and doors. Otherwise, it was good accommodation. The rooms were clean, a good size and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and quick to respond.

I only meant to book a few nights, but it was comfortable enough that I stayed for 11. The rooms are large, the price is great and the staff are really friendly. Definitely recommend.

I was in Gladstone for a pickleball tournament, and the venue was only a two-minute walk away. Even the Yacht Club, my longest walk, was just ten minutes from here. The room was good value, and I'll look at staying again for next year's tournament.
