Beerwah Glasshouse Mountains Motel

The musty smell was there as soon as we walked into the room, and the place really needs a full renovation. We never saw a staff member during our stay, and no one came to bring fresh towels or empty the garage. This place needs to be seen and smelled to believe. Definitely give it a miss.

We've stayed in two different rooms here over the last four years, and found them equally clean and well run. For us, coming regularly for overnight trips since my girl started surfing, it's a good find that doesn't break the budget. The beds are super comfortable, the linen impeccable, and the amenities are fine for the reasonable rate, even if the styling and facilities aren't resort standard. There are some tired, shabby bits, but some of the complaints in other reviews are hard for me to believe. We didn't find it unclean, see pests, or have a problem with road noise, though it is on one of the hinterland's busiest tourist roads and that may matter to others. We did see a couple of cute geckos, which we welcomed since we have them at home too. The owner has always been pleasant and helpful. Over our most recent stay at Xmas, they were dealing with staff difficulties and still remained helpful and accommodating.

The Motel cats are gorgeous, and the people we dealt with were friendly and responsive, but the building badly needs an upgrade. It's more like a hostel than a motel and feels tired, dull, and grimy, though it could be distinctive if someone invested in it. Our bathroom door wouldn't close, and the bathroom was plagued by giant cockroaches. The garden is rambling and unkept, and the pool was closed because of a chemical imbalance. Even at the current nightly rate, I think it's too expensive. It has plenty of potential, and maybe improvements are planned, but in its present state it's just grotty. We were glad to leave and won't be back.

We chose this as the cheapest place we could find near Australia Zoo. After a long day walking, a very nice lady came over from the other property and handed us the keys. The beds were clean and tidy, and the koala picture was very cute. The bathroom was okay, the aircon worked well, and the pool was clean and fresh. The atmosphere could use a little work, but otherwise it was a beautiful, lovely, and cheap place.
