Anna Bella Motel

My husband was there for work and left after the first night, even though he was booked for two more. He couldn’t sleep because he was itchy all night and thought there might be bed bugs. The shower hadn’t been cleaned, and there was a bar of soap with hair on it. He told reception in the morning and got an apology, but nobody offered to move him to another room. Since he operates heavy machinery and needed sleep, he went to a different hotel. They also refused his request for a refund for the two unused nights.

There weren’t even tea or coffee facilities, and the smell was so bad that we opened the windows as soon as we arrived. The shower had mould and old soap left behind, and the place was disgusting. It badly needs professional cleaners and a refurbishment. This felt like a real health hazard, and I wouldn’t recommend the motel to anyone. Reviews should allow negative stars. I’d have given it at least -3.

When I arrived at the annabella motel, I found I was being charged $144 a night, even though the TripAdvisor booking I made by phone showed $114 per night. I have evidence of the booking on my phone. I’d booked the room for 2pm and asked about getting in earlier, but there was nobody in the office from 9am until after noon. I kept going back to check, and couldn’t get into the office until 2:15pm. We reached room 7 just as it was getting dark, and it was dim inside. The air con only blew cool air. The manager said he’d fixed it, but the room stayed cold all night. Halfway through the night I cleaned the filters myself to see if that would help. It didn’t. The bathroom was disgraceful: mould above the shower, black mould under the soap dispenser, yellow scum and mould along the grout, and tea stains all through the sink. I asked other guests if their rooms were as bad and got mixed answers. One man said the previous visitors’ towel was still behind the door. I’m a professional cleaner, so I know what I’m looking at. I had the manager take a video of the problems on his phone. He said he’d pass it to the boss, since only the boss could approve a refund, and took my name, number, email and phone number. I feel ripped off. If I don’t get a refund, I’ll definitely take this further. Thanks for your time.

The room had a musty smell, and the walls were dirty with what looked like spills in several spots. We stayed one night, but the mould covering the shower floor and lower walls was so bad we couldn’t shower.
