Chancellor Executive Apartments

The pool outlook was lovely, and the room had lots of facilities. Staff were friendly and very helpful. It’s handy for the university, but the place is a bit run down. The bathroom has a strong mould smell, and some of the maintenance issues leave you wondering what happened and what the story is.

The rooms are nice, clean, and comfortable, and it’s handy being within walking distance of shops. The lobby has a strange feel, more like walking into an RSL Club than a hotel or apartment. The hallway to the elevator feels odd too, kind of spooky 🤔.

My stay at the Chancellor apartments wasn't terrible, and the morning itself had been pleasant until reception called at 10:01 am, while I was literally at the door ready to leave, to remind me checkout was at 10:00 am. Being hassled to move on barely a minute later felt rude and like poor customer service, especially after spending a lot on two weeks' accommodation. I was already leaving when they told me to get out. I hadn't complained about the gym's broken air conditioning, which made it unusable like a sauna, or the dishwasher that broke halfway through the stay. Both had been factors in choosing this property over an Airbnb by the beach. I don't think giving guests more than a minute after checkout to start leaving is an unreasonable expectation when advertised features aren't working. It was an irritating, unnecessary end to an otherwise pleasant morning.

I wouldn't recommend this place. The reception staff were extremely rude and argued back at length by email, while management never responded, which left us feeling unsettled and unwelcome. On arrival, after a frustrating struggle with unclear after-hours instructions, we eventually got into the curly car park, but it was a bad start. The signs at reception and in the room felt unwelcoming. Our small one-bedroom room had unclear Wi-Fi instructions that didn't work. The toilet and bath looked soiled and stained, supplies were inadequate for three of us on the first night, and the dishwasher had dirty water pooled inside with unclean-looking utensils. Reception had told us to contact after-hours the day before, but they said twice that nothing could be done until morning. The spring bed was loosely supported and felt sharp. Wi-Fi wasn't free, and its price wasn't listed in the room. I had no other options, as another reviewer did, but as someone who often travels with family to and from Gold Coast Queensland Australia, I think we should read more genuine negative reviews to check value for money and whether places provide support when it's needed.
