We paid extra for an ocean view, but from our first room in the north tower the beach was barely visible. We had booked a two-bedroom ocean view for 12 days, but the room wasn't set up as requested. Reception sent housekeeping to fix it, and we mentioned the strong unpleasant smell. They sprayed fragrance, but it wore off quickly and the smell stayed. We also found a used towel behind the door, which made me wonder how thoroughly the rooms are cleaned. They moved us the next day, since there wasn't another room available on check-in day. The east tower had a better ocean view, but still had a noticeable smell near the ensuite and a ceiling fan that squeaked constantly. The bed wasn't properly made: there was only a sheet on the main bed, and the doona was folded on the wardrobe floor. The dryer barely worked unless we pressed on its door, so we had to improvise rather than wait all day for the washing. During housekeeping, one of our drinks disappeared from the fridge. The spa made excessive foam when switched on, and was better with the “bubbles” off. We don't plan to stay here again after this experience.

The pool is exceptional, and we had direct ocean views. Staff were friendly and helpful, and both the room and amenities were very good. It's perfectly located opposite Pacific Fair shopping centre, Star Casino and the tram. The tram goes to Cavill Ave and all the way to the theme parks for 50 cents, and it's only a five-minute walk to the beach. I'll definitely stay again.

We had a midweek clean during our seven-night stay, which was good. The pool was lovely, especially after a busy day at the Theme parks, and I would recommend this hotel. We enjoyed our stay, though other customers I spoke with said their rooms were old and quite rundown. We were concerned to find foil lining our oven. We think the cleaners are doing that without knowing how dangerous it is. I'd recommend calling ahead if you have any concerns before arriving.

The rooms were clean, with adequate amenities and parking available. The children loved the pool and outdoor spa. Bel Air was convenient for our stay, a block and a bit from the beach and Pacific Fair. Broadbeach South lightrail station is across the road, so getting to Cavill st just a couple of stops away was easy.

Helpful staff and a perfect location for what we needed. The room was okay, but the fridge was very noisy and the free-to-air TV didn't work properly. Streaming services worked perfectly. We were on the 15th floor, room 1152B. We'll be back next January, but will make sure we get a different room.
