Broadbeach on the Park - We Accommodate

The staff were great and happily moved us to another room the next morning. That room was nice, and the split system in the main bedroom worked well, though the room aircon still didn’t. The dishwasher was broken too, and I think the bedroom ceiling fan needed a new remote battery because that wouldn’t work either. Our late check-in went smoothly, but we found the first room’s aircon wasn’t working. There was a pedestal fan, which made it seem like the hotel knew, but that didn’t work either. Our stay was okay because of the working split system, but without it the heat would have been unbearable. Staff were friendly and helpful, though the hotel needs major maintenance and upgrades. It’s a shame, since it’s a short walk from everything Broadbeach offers. Maybe fine in winter, but I’d avoid it in hot or humid weather.

I got there just after 4pm on a Friday, but couldn’t check in. I had to use a house phone to get the code for the box with my room key envelope. The phone rang out, so I ended up calling the app. It’s an old hotel that needs renovation. It’s barely staffed, and the small service points are lacking. I guess they don’t get good customers. Also, I hate those big wall-mounted hand soap bottles that are there so guests won’t take them home.

The location is the best thing about this hotel, with everything you need an easy walk away. After about 5pm, check-in is through an intercom and key box. It was very hard to hear the operator, so let them know when you plan to arrive. Our room was clean, but outdated, with stained furniture and walls that needed painting. It felt like the owner hadn’t spent anything on accessories in years. We hardly saw anyone at the service desk, apart from the girl there on checkout day, so the service was very low. We also looked at a place for sale on a lower floor that was usually rented, and it was a palace compared with the dated three-star room we had. Apparently those units are all in the letting pool. If you want refinements or luxury, stay somewhere else. For an Accor hotel this was really disappointing. I won’t return unless I know which room I’m getting.

Mantra Broadbeach is a convenient, cozy and affordable place to stay. There are plenty of bars, cafes, restaurants, bottle shops, supermarkets and convenience stores nearby. Broadbeach North and Broadbeach South tram stations are both close. At the nearby Oasis Mall, Woolworths was handy for reasonably priced fresh fruit, juice and milk. I’d recommend it for a family trip if you want to keep travel costs down.
