Chateau Beachside Resort

The hygiene wasn’t maintained. The sofa covers were stained, the cushions were in poor shape, and the glass windows looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in ages. When we checked in, they asked for an AUD 500 deposit, with other charges possible for losing a key or asking for a fresh towel. At first the hotel seemed safe and good, but when we got to the room the old fashioned doors didn’t seem secure.

The pool and spas are lovely, and there’s also a sauna and steam rooms. The pool is really big, with three spas, so you usually don’t have to share with other guests. It’s a basic but affordable and convenient spot, right in front of the beach and within walking distance of lots of shops and restaurants. The building and rooms are older, but clean. Secure parking is available, and you can even request a smoking room, which you hardly see anymore. Rooms are serviced only after seven days, and each person gets one towel. Extra towels cost $3 each, so bring your own beach towel and extra bath towels. They don’t provide beach or pool towels. There’s a big kids’ games room that costs to use, plus paid laundry.

The location was the only part we enjoyed, and the pool is a great size, so this place has potential. But the rooms and building are old and run down, and we felt dirty and uncomfortable there. The rooms were boiling hot with no air conditioning, and the windows wouldn’t stay open to let air in. One power point was broken and gave me a small shock when I touched it.

The only thing going for this hotel was the convenient location. We were on level 12, but the room was dim and felt unhealthy, with mould visible on the ceiling. The blanket was torn, and the furniture looked worn and outdated. The couch was in such bad condition it seemed like it should have been replaced a long time ago. Everything felt untidy and poorly maintained, and I found it very hard to relax or sleep. The hotel is very old, and the room wasn’t clean or well cared for. It didn’t meet basic expectations for cleanliness or maintenance.
