Golden Gate - Q Stay

DO NOT COME HERE! The rooms were extremely dirty. The second bathroom hadn’t been cleaned at all, the bins hadn’t been emptied, and there was dust on the fans. The people running the hotel were unequipped and highly unprofessional. The air conditioners didn’t work. We asked to move rooms or get at least half our money back, but they refused and offered only a small amount. We had to go out of our way to find their number and contact them about the problems, and they still wouldn’t help fix the air conditioners. The shower screen was broken and door knobs were missing. We paid $700 for 2 nights. Please don’t come here!

This is our second year at The Golden Gate. It’s in a lovely location, with friendly staff and residents. The pool and outdoor area are lovely too, and the pool is heated so you can swim year-round.

The internet wasn’t working, and the AC barely worked from the moment we arrived. We had to bring mattresses into the living room to sleep. Supplies like toilet paper, conditioner and shampoo were limited. The next morning, we asked reception to fix things. After they said they were “done”, they hadn’t actually done anything, and had left our door halfway open with all our valuables inside. We went down again about the internet and mentioned the AC once more. The receptionist said, “I can refund you your money and you can head out.” While I was explaining this to my mum, the receptionist kept yelling “yes or no” at her, even though she knew Mum doesn’t speak English. Mum felt violated by being yelled at, and found the service disrespectful and upsetting. The service and manners at Golden Gate Hotel were terrible. As we left, the receptionist didn’t even ask how the stay or customer service had been. Do NOT come here.

The apartment was decent, but several things were broken and the A/C didn’t seem to work. We stayed a few days with friends, and there were other problems too. Booking.com said the room was for 5 people, but at check-in they made us pay extra because apparently it wasn’t meant for five. The car park isn’t suited to 4x4s, and some spaces are boxed in with cages so you can’t get out of your car. They did let us park somewhere else. There also seemed to be favoritism among guests: staff would sometimes stop talking to us halfway through and go to another guest. There was no toilet paper, or the roll was already half empty, when we arrived. All the towels smelled and had very visible yellow and black stains.
