Sun City - Q Stay

The steam room, gym, and indoor pool were just right for a long weekend reset, and I loved the different spas, pools, and pyramids. The displays made it feel like being on an Indiana jones movie set. Such a creative, unusual place. The room furniture could use an update, though it would have fit the theme nicely if it had continued through the room. I’ll definitely visit again.

This was our third stay at mantra sun city, this time for seven nights. We like being just above Surfers’ main street, so it’s quieter, and the light rail stops at the hotel gate. It was handy and only .50c to ride. Our spacious two-bedroom apartment had a nice beach view, comfortable beds and pillows, and its own laundry, which was great for washing clothes. We enjoyed the stay and would still return, though there were quite a few drawbacks. There were four of us but only one balcony chair. The kitchen had one frypan, which wasn’t ideal for making bacon and eggs. I asked reception about another chair and pan, but they said the apartment was privately owned and the owner would have to be contacted. The old toaster started smoking halfway through making toast. The wall-mounted hairdryer switched off after ten seconds on high, so I had to use low and keep my finger on the button. Its cord was short, which meant standing close to the wall. The air conditioning worked well in the lounge, kitchen, and dining area, but not in the main bedroom. We found a fan in the wardrobe and used it all night. Parking now costs $20 per day, with an allocated spot. The pool area was nice, but the indoor spa wasn’t working. Breakfast at Koastal kitchen was pretty ordinary, while the pool bar snacks and cocktails were nice.

The location and facilities were great, and we really appreciated the birthday amenity. Our stay was good overall. I called reception to ask about pest control, but Paula was dry and rude on the phone and didn’t give me clear information. It would also have helped to know that guests can walk through the hotel to reach the tram station, since we weren’t driving.

The Eastern Water Dragons were my favourite part, they’re amazing. We also had lovely walks along the nearby beachfront, where lots of people were walking and running and the atmosphere felt really positive. The hotel looks great as you arrive, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with great facilities including several pools, a gym, steam room, and sauna. Eateries and shops are within walking distance. There’s also a tram stop right outside, with rides costing 50 cents or a day pass at $1.50 to get to places like shopping malls. I’d definitely go back!
