The staff were really nice, and they let me check in at 10:00. The room itself was hot and smelled bad, with just a fan and no air conditioning. I’d had my own bathroom in other YHAs, but here there was a shared bathroom with two toilets. Restaurants nearby made evenings really loud. It’s a long way from Surfers Paradise, and there were only a few shuttle times each day. The door to my room kept sticking and made a lot of noise when I opened it.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and the walk along the beach to Surfers Paradise’s main area took about 45 minutes, which wasn’t too bad. The buses cost around $10 for two, though the fare expired after two hours. It’s not a prime location. The basic rooms had no air conditioning, but we were given a fan. Evenings were noisy from the restaurant opposite, and people were allowed to sleep on sofas in the communal area, which wasn’t pleasant while I was making breakfast in the nearby kitchen.
The room and facilities were clean, with plenty of power outlets and lockers for extra security. Reception staff were very friendly. It’s a nice place to stay if you want to be outside the city. The only downside was the free Wi-Fi, which was very slow, as usual.
It’s pretty clean, and the cleaners are around all the time. The place is really quiet, with a shuttle bus to Surfers Paradise if you’re looking to party. It’s a bit far from the city centre and clubs, and there aren’t many activities to do.
The marina area is great, with good restaurants, attractions and pubs, but the room felt like a dirty prison. It needs renovation to feel cleaner and cosier. The whole place is dated and needs a facelift. We paid $70 a night, and I don’t think it should cost more than $50. Good location, poor value.
