Tropicana Motel

The shower came with one of those odd 3-in-1 sachets. The motel wasn't too bad otherwise, but it was very noisy, as other reviews have said. Reception is open for such limited hours that it seems hard for them to keep people from being loud in the middle of the night.

Unit 9 was clean, and the bathroom looked newly renovated, with a good amount of space. The fridge worked, and the air conditioning was very effective, maybe a bit too effective. I also heard some strange noises that seemed to come from the water pipes. The room itself was fine, but the bed wasn't great, and the shutters let in outdoor and street lights at night as well as morning light. We didn't sleep well. The location is probably what you're paying for. The beach, restaurants, cafes, nearest mall and mini golf are all under a five-minute walk away. Free parking was a bonus, I guess. The place felt tacky, and it was really overpriced for what you get, even though it cost less than most places nearby. We saved $50 a night, but in hindsight, saving $100 over two nights probably wasn't worth it. We asked to check out an hour later, at 11am, and were told it would cost $20. I didn't take pictures of the room, but it was fine and everything was clean. The only photos I have are of the beach nearby, which was beautiful. It already gets hot by 9am, so head out for a walk or to the beach early.

We left early after I found what looked like bedbug remnants. There were cockroaches everywhere. The air conditioning was nice, and the location was great during the day, but at night it felt quite sketchy, with random people hanging around in the parking lot. Bugs and the chance of an infestation would need not to bother you.

The room was awful, and at this price it's easily the worst hotel we've stayed in. It costs as much as a two-bedroom luxury townhouse at the Oscar On Main, but had the feel of a last-minute place in a red-light district. The mirror was just leaning against the bathroom wall above the vanity, not even glued on. The carpet was ripped, the walls had holes, and the wiring seemed borderline unsafe. Bedding was hard, the bathroom fan roared like a jet engine, and the internet was slow and kept cutting out. Parking is pointless unless you drive a mini. The walls are paper thin, and the traffic noise felt like someone was sleeping beside us and breathing in our ears.
