Goolgowi Highway Motel

The receptionist was sweet about complimenting my slippers, and I found the bed pretty comfortable. The room itself was fine, though a loud noise kept making it a struggle to fall asleep. The sink was so tiny I wasn't sure how to wash my hands, and I was disappointed there was no milk in the fridge. Some of the rules seemed odd. For a one-night stop it could work, but I don't think I'd come back :)

The bed was OK, and the room was clean. There was a pub nearby for dinner, which was handy. Still, the place was very basic: some doors wouldn't close and a light didn't work. The air conditioner sat low on the wall at bed height, about a metre from the bed, and a big gap around it let a fresh breeze into the room. I wouldn't choose to stay again, but the only other place in town was fully booked.

The cold showers were bad enough, and the air conditioning was so noisy we couldn't hear the TV. There was a sign in the toilet listing more than 20 things not to put in it, plus a long list of other rules they pointed out to us: don't park facing the neighbours, idle the car to warm it up, cook on a portable gas stove, or make noodles or put tea bags in the jug. They didn't have eftpos either. Worst motel we've ever stayed in. Just don't go there.

After reading the reviews, I was pleasantly surprised. The owner was very pleasant, and my room was clean, if basic. The motel rules seemed much like those at other motels to me, just common courtesy toward the neighbouring homes and other guests.
