Citrus Motel

About two hours after I checked in, got my key and settled in the room, someone knocked and said there was a problem with my reservation. I went back to the office to complain, but the staff were so rude. They suddenly told me to leave, saying I hadn't checked in, even though I had. They told me to leave right away or they would call the police. The room had no air con and the linen was filthy. They even asked for a different price if I paid cash. Such a shocking situation and a really bad memory.

It was fairly cheap, and the staff were polite and professional. The motel itself was pretty clean, though there was a strange smell in the bathroom and what looked like it might be black mold behind the door. Other than that, I have no complaints, and I’d recommend it overall.

The reception had a bad smell, and the rooms need work. They’re old and need painting, the furniture should be replaced, and the curtains are torn and coming down. There’s no screen on the bathroom window, the towel rack is coming off the wall, and one leg is missing from the fridge. The shower’s hot and cold taps are on the wrong sides, and the pillows were hard and stained.

Room #7 was filthy: bottle caps under one bed and food crumbs under the other. The shower was missing a whole door panel, so water went across the floor, and the cupboard under the basin was stuffed with rags, apparently because the drain leaks. The hot tap delivered boiling water straight away, and the lower window pane by the front door had a diagonal crack running corner to corner. Reception seemed amazed when I mentioned the missing shower screen, though I can’t see how they wouldn’t have known. The so-called cleaners were in and out in under 10 minutes the next morning. I’ve travelled extensively for over 10 years, and this was the worst motel I’ve come across.
