The Tasmanian devil baby encounter was unforgettable, and we loved that kangaroos came over even without food. They seemed full and had no interest in being fed, so there’s no need to buy any. We’d planned to spend two hours at the park, but after arriving that was cut by about 20 minutes. You can hurry around in an hour, but to take your time, see the animals, visit the kangaroos, and maybe do an encounter, two hours is really needed. We wished we could have stayed longer. We were staying in Burnie, about an hour’s drive away, and didn’t have a car. The park doesn’t arrange transport, while a taxi for that distance is quite expensive, so we went with eGuide’s transport and park entry option.

The park is lovely, with lots of different animals, and I’d happily come back on my next visit. I travelled all the way from Germany because I’d always wanted to see a Tasmanian devil up close. Meeting Wednesday with Vanya was such a good experience. I’m usually shy and not very social, but the zookeeper made me feel at ease and talked to me like an old friend. Wednesday was relaxed with her, and Vanya shared plenty of facts about devils that I hadn’t known. I really recommend the encounter. It was worth it.

You can wander around at your own pace, and the animals are so friendly they come right up close. I’ve visited zoos and animal parks around the UK, including Chester Zoo, as well as Melbourne Zoo and Sydney Zoo, and this is the one where I felt closest to the animals. It’s a lovely place for locals and tourists alike and deserves a spot on your holiday itinerary. There’s also a very large free caravan park site by the banks of the Levern river. I’ve got more photos and will upload them.

The staff were great, and the work they do rehabilitating so many creatures is amazing. My favorite stop in all of Australia, though, was getting to cuddle their adorable baby wombat. I’ll be dreaming about that snuggle forever. Don’t miss this place!

I especially liked seeing the Tasmanian devils. The caretakers shared stories and facts with real warmth and enthusiasm, which made the visit both interesting and memorable. The animals seem well cared for, and their enclosures are thoughtfully laid out. There’s a lovely idea behind Wings Wildlife Park: bringing native and exotic animals together with farm life and genuine hospitality. It feels like a sanctuary built with care, more than just a place to look at wildlife. Set in the quiet countryside around Gunns Plains, it’s an easy spot to slow down, spend time with animals, and enjoy the rural side of Tasmania.
