Kookaburra Motor Lodge

The room was a bit tired, but had all the necessities and a comfortable bed. The rain head shower was a nice touch. Streaming services were just acceptable because of the internet speed, and being next to the driveway was a little noisy, though manageable. Definitely coming back.

The location gets five stars: right in the centre, walking distance to all the shops, yet very quiet. The staff were friendly, though it seemed like one person was running the whole motel. The room was warm thanks to the new reverse cycle unit. We stayed two nights in a mountain view room. Other parts fell short. I wouldn't call it value for money, and it's a shame because the location is so good. It may have won awards before, but they don't reflect the current condition. The bathroom had very bad mould. The mattress was comfy and the heated blanket was a plus, but the sheets were stained and the duvet very thin. The sofa and carpet needed cleaning, and the outdoor seating was poor and unclean.

The owner is nice, the main street is within walking distance, and there's lots of cool wildlife. I'd book a mountain view room, as the garden view rooms face a quiet road and don't have the same private natural outlook. When we arrived, the room had more than 25 house flies, like a barnyard. I spent an hour killing them. I've stayed in plenty of similar motels in Australia, and the bed, curtains, and general upkeep here were lacking. A simple fix would be to keep the door shut during housekeeping to limit the flies. Dust the rooms and invest in basic maintenance, and this place could be nice.

The room was spacious, and although the bathroom was old, it was very usable and the showers were hot. A great stay for us, with most places in town within walking distance.
