Whitsunday East 1106 on Hamilton Island by HamoRent

The bathroom could do with a renovation, but this felt like the best value for money in Hamilton Island. The sea view is beautiful, the pools are nice and relaxing, and room service was efficient, with towels changed daily. The free Green and blue bus around the island stops right at the door. Highly recommend.

We booked two nights but couldn’t make it on the first night because of the weather and transport cancellations. When we arrived first thing the next morning, we knew the room was ready for the night we’d paid for. Still, we were told it wasn’t ready because check-in was at 2pm. We explained we had booked and paid for the previous night and just hadn’t arrived in time, so expected the keys then. There was no apology. Only after we asked were we offered a refund for that first night. The follow-up email was titled ‘cyclone cancellation’. It didn’t say they had given our room to someone else because we hadn’t checked in by 2pm. What if we’d booked the room and wanted to arrive at 7am? It seemed there’d been a mistake and a double booking, and they should simply have apologised. The young woman with long brown hair and glasses had absolutely shocking customer service. She was dismissive with us at check-in on the first day, so I gave her the benefit of the doubt and thought she might have had a bad, busy day. The next morning at checkout, I saw her with several other customers and realised she was just naturally fluent in rude. No eye contact, very dismissive, and no time for her job, including with people who weren’t complaining. If she’s choosing to live on Hamilton island and work in a customer-facing role instead of cleaning rooms, she needs to rethink her attitude. I’ve given an extra star because the room was nicer than the ones at the reef hotel, where we also stayed.

We’re so grateful to the Whitsunday Apartments for a truly wonderful honeymoon. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful, the rooms were spotless, and those beautiful sea views over Catseye Beach were breathtaking. It was perfectly located, so close to the Marina and the Wildlife Habitat. You made our honeymoon a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The service was available during the stated hours, 7am-7pm, and the staff were willing to help and kind of friendly. Cleanliness was okay. The apartments are big, with a lot of room that we didn’t really use, and odd details like an extra washbasin in the bedroom. Basic things that make it an apartment rather than a hotel room with a kitchen, like salt and pepper, were missing. There’s a moldy smell when you enter, and the facilities are very outdated, apparently built in the 80s. For the 300€ we paid per night, we wouldn’t come back after all.
