Budget on the Lake

The motel is close to both the city centre and the lake, and the rooms are quiet, well equipped and well maintained. I came from Geelong for a few days’ holiday. Be aware that cooking isn’t allowed by law, but they provide a microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, plates and cutlery.

The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. Manager Sai was friendly and helpful, both over the phone and in person.

We had a good first experience of Hamilton, though the stay itself was uncomfortable for me. I usually choose accommodation based on reviews, and I think we may have been given a room that was due for renovation. I don’t mind that if I’m comfortable. The building and outside looked tired but were clean. Our room was number 3 and didn’t have a lake view. The bed had a bedside table, handy power points and a lamp. It came with a doona that seemed to be reused between two clean white sheets, while the pillowcases were discoloured. I’d have preferred a firmer bed. The water pressure was strong and the hot water was good, but water escaped the shower and soaked the foot towel. The short shower curtain had yellow stains at the bottom and should be changed. The AC drip could also be plumbed better. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash were combined in one product. The basin was tiny, and water ended up all over the floor after using it. It was too small for washing dishes properly, and there was no detergent for the kitchenette items. The kitchenette did have the basics, including a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. The roller blind wouldn’t draw up unless operated manually from the top, and it and the sheer curtain were dusty. There were mosquitoes too. The electronic door locks were nice.

It’s an old motel, which is fine. The room was warm and comfortable, and the shower had warm water. Reception isn’t on site, so you have to call them. It wasn’t the worst place, but expect only the basics.
