We loved having such a calm spot to return to after exploring the caves and south coast. Fisherman’s Point walk is well worth doing. The view is peaceful, with plenty of birds and pademelons around, and our lovely hosts had left us a delicious berry teacake. Such a cozy place to stay. I’d love to come back.

We spent two nights at the Oyster shack and wished we had longer. The house is even more beautiful than the photos, with huge windows looking out over the water. Russell was happy to share local tips, so ask him if you need ideas. We loved the quiet setting, and even spotted a shooting star one evening. Fishing with oysters for bait didn’t work out, but it was fun to try. We cooked in the kitchen and on the bbq, and picked up groceries in Dover before arriving. The Southport tavern wasn’t serving food or drinks, though takeaway was available from the shop. There aren’t other shops or groceries nearby, so plan ahead. Hastings caves and thermal pools are well worth a visit, and the drive down the C road to Cockle Creek is divine. On arrival, we found a still-warm raspberry cake waiting for us, and it was delicious. A beautiful, peaceful home if you want time away from the city bustle.

Two days went by far too quickly. The setting and the dwelling were divine, the hosts were amazing, and trying fresh oysters was a great experience. We’d highly recommend staying here.

We’ve stayed in some great cabins in Tassie and elsewhere, and this one ranks among the best. It’s not flash, but it’s cozy, well equipped, and tucked into a beautiful Tassie bush block, with native gardens, bushland, and sensational water views all around. The owners have clearly put a lot of love into it, and thought of everything we needed. The off-grid cabin runs on solar energy and storage. Built with timber from the property, it’s comfortably furnished and has quirky decor. We cooked dinner easily with the kitchen and bbq, and the wood burner kept us warm in the late afternoon and evening. Stock up on food in Hobart or Huonville before you come, as there’s no IGA nearby. Southport is close for emergencies, fuel, or a tavern meal if that suits you. There are lots of walks and great beaches within a half-hour drive, especially around Cockle Creek, where the ocean is bracing but calm enough for a swim. Russell and Van live nearby, though you wouldn’t know it. We stayed two nights and should have booked two more. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The owners were so kind and friendly. They left me a delicious cherry cake and gave me fruit and eggs from their garden, which I really appreciated. I also had my first ever double rainbow right in front of the house. It was a comfortable place to unwind in a quiet, natural setting. I saw kangaroos and hedgehogs running around the garden, and seafood like oysters and mussels was easy to find nearby. I’ll come back whenever I need to relax. Wonderful place!
