The loft was lovely, though it has no door, which might matter to some people, and we never used the downstairs bedroom. The pot belly stove warmed the cottage well, with split systems in the bedrooms too. We brought a dozen good logs and were glad we did, as only a few small pieces were supplied. The place had what we needed, apart from a standard chopping board and an ice tray. My husband and I stayed two nights in May 2021, and the cottage was cosy without feeling cramped. The spa bath was the biggest and deepest I’ve seen in a home or hotel room, and the shower had plenty of room, a generous rain head and a second handheld head. We walked to The Surly Goat, Frank & Connie's, Peppers Mineral Spa, The Bath House at Hepburn and Hepburn Springs Brewery Co., only driving into Daylesford to look around. I booked through Daylesford Escapes and only noticed the one-star Google reviews afterwards. They made me worry we’d made a bad choice or been duped, but we found the home delightful and very conveniently located. We were held up getting in because the cleaning was still underway. That was the main downside, though mix-ups like that happen. The late checkout was much appreciated, and we’d stay again. Happy to recommend it.

The view from the windows was lovely, and the location made it easy to get to cafes, restaurants and the Hepburn Springs baths. We found the couches and beds very comfortable, and the linen was great. Our stay at the French Cottage exceeded what we expected. Highly recommend it.

Escapes ignored several emails from us, both before and after the stay. We also had to wait more than two hours to get into the property. Once inside, it hadn’t been cleaned properly, the sheets didn’t fit the bed and water was leaking from the fridge. It’s a lovely property, but for what we paid, the standard was disappointing.

The TV had neither reception nor an internet connection, so DVDs were the only thing to watch. The carpet was in poor condition in places, and we found discarded chewing gum in the toilet roll holder. In the bathroom the shower head was broken, while several window winders were broken too, so those windows couldn’t be opened. There was no remote for the master bedroom aircon. The fireplace had no matches or kindling, which meant we had to buy our own the following day. The listing showed a coffee machine, but there was only a pod machine and no pods. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

Comfortable, well equipped and with great views, this little cottage is in a handy spot in Hepburn, close to Daylesford centre. Looking forward to coming back.
