Hepburn Pool House

We walked past in winter, when nobody was using the pool. The grassy area and wood-fired BBQs suggest it does get used in warmer weather, and the historic pool can still be an attraction then. The water isn’t especially clean, but a gentle trickle keeps it from being stagnant.

I went to swim at the end of October, but the water was far too dirty for me to get in. I’m used to swimming in river creeks and even ponds, so that says a lot. It’s disgusting to see the place allowed to deteriorate like this. The grounds have been neglected, and all the streamside reserve walks are closed. I know there have been floods, but I assume Hepburn shire is well funded, and it’s an expensive area to live in and visit. It’s really sad. This was such a lovely area to visit once upon a time.

I love the place, but the Council held on to grant money meant to clean it out and won’t let the community do the work. Now it’s full of weeds, and we no longer have blackfish and platypuses. It should be a five if the Council managed it or let the community help.

I’d love to come back for a swim when it’s hotter. It’s a beautiful natural freshwater pool, free to visit, and has that lovely historic open-air feel. Hard to beat all of that together.
