I hosted a retreat for 15 women at the Grande Hotel this weekend, and everyone loved the venue. Ian and Phillip were fabulous hosts. The rooms and facilities were just right, and the food was outstanding. We had a range of dietary needs, and every one was taken care of without any trouble. I had such an amazing stay that I’m already planning retreats there for 2023.

We like the Grande Hotel’s atmosphere, and the eclectic parlour bar is a lovely place for a romantic nightcap. This was our second visit: the first was for dinner and drinks, and this time we stopped in for cocktails on the walk home after dinner. It’s a nice spot for an evening stroll and a taste of country living.

The manager really took care of our group, and knew his alcohol and cocktails. They were short staffed but still did a great job. Thanks for making my friend’s birthday a happy night.

The local staff were full of great suggestions and helped us put together a perfect weekend. There are nice shared spaces for a morning coffee, and the fireplace is gorgeous. Such a great place for a weekend getaway, I highly recommend it.

Friday’s cabaret-style entertainment is a treat, with amazing local talent. Andrew Dennis is a remarkable hatted chef, and the Grande made it into The Age Good Food Guide within days of opening its restaurant. The wine list is excellent, the breakfasts are sublime, and it’s not overly expensive. The photos of his dishes really do show how wonderful they are. The rooms are comfortable, and some have spas and doors opening onto a balcony with breathtaking views over the Wombat Forest. There’s a short walk through the forest to the Hepburn Spa. You get everything you could want for a quiet, comfortable gourmet weekend, and I thoroughly recommend it for a relaxing tree-change break with memorable local produce.
