The location and photos on Booking.com gave us the wrong impression. We arrived expecting on-site parking, but there wasn’t any. If rooms are listed on third-party sites, the need to pre-book parking should be made clear. At check-in I asked whether the pub across the road would be noisy at night, and the receptionist said it wouldn’t. The first night, the linen and towels weren’t clean. The room was filthy, things weren’t working properly, and there was visible mould. The air-conditioning vents were very dusty, and I woke with a cough and sore throat. I couldn’t sleep well because of bed bugs and noise from nearby bars. There was also a staff-only room next to ours, with some kind of loud generator or machine that started at random times overnight. That made it hard to get the sleep I needed while already tired from travelling. Please book somewhere else. Based on my stay, I’d recommend staying elsewhere.

The only real plus was the central Hobart location. The Google photos are inaccurate, the rooms are small, and the carpets are old and worn. The heating is locked at 23 C, with no way to control it. When I called after-hours support because the room was too hot, they told me to open a window. The bathroom was poor, and the shower had a very slow flow. For the triple room, they provided only tiny shampoo tubes, nowhere near enough for three people, and there was no hand wash. There’s no room service unless you specifically ask the day before. Even with a 40% discount, I paid $800 for two nights. At $150 a night it might be okay, but this was probably the worst hotel I’ve booked. For God’s sake, please don’t book it.

The location is great, team. But there was dried vomit from the night before at the front entrance, which set the tone on arrival. I booked the family room on Booking.com and paid $447 for SFA, then another $60 for parking, which also wasn’t made clear on the website. The online photos looked fresh and clean, but the room didn’t match them. It was small and stuffy, and smelled of stale cigarettes despite being a non-smoking hotel. The website mentioned a small dividing wall, but there wasn’t one. It looked half renovated: the bulkhead above the beds was unfinished, the paintwork was laughable, and the bedhead looked like it had been taken from somewhere else and stuck on the wall. The shower also had a step to get in, so it wasn’t walk-in. I’d booked two nights but stayed in the room for less than ten minutes. When I went down and asked for a refund for the second night, they said no. Booking.com told me the same when I contacted them. The room could have been sold and used, but this felt like a business more concerned with numbers than hospitality.

I’ve been coming here twice a year to see my elderly parents in Sydney, and expect to visit more often as they get older. After being away for just over two weeks, I came back to find the price had jumped from $125 to $200. For that money, an ancient TV that isn’t smart and isn’t up to date is ridiculous. I’d had a smart TV before, but the front desk girl said I’d simply been given a room without one, bad luck. Some kind of compensation would be good. After dinner, I came back to find several customers waiting more than half an hour to check in or get help. The receptionist had her headphones on. It felt rude, and the customer service was poor. Putting a call on hold for two minutes to check people in or help them quickly would have been good service. You’re going to lose customers. The receptionist was rude to all those people.

The shower and spa were good, but for what we paid I expected a better room. There were stains on the bed underlay and curtains, and the skirting boards looked mouldy or in need of repair around the room. The Wi-Fi didn’t work in the room at all. I also thought parking would be included for the price, but they don’t have enough spaces. There are only about 15, so if the hotel is full you have to find somewhere else to park.
