Wongai Beach Hotel

I’m there regularly for work, and the standard is always consistent. The plates are packed with quality food, so you won’t leave hungry, especially if you’ve got a big appetite. The continental breakfast is great too. Rooms are great and very clean, with shampoo, conditioner and body wash stocked in the bathroom. Even the toilet roll was folded nicely, those little details make a place pleasant to stay. The hotel and bar staff are friendly, and the pool has a great view over the harbour and Thursday island.

They’ll collect you from the airport in their courtesy bus if you’re staying there. Staff are friendly, and they have spray at the bar around sunset for the sand flies. The rooms are clean and a decent size, and the meals are tasty and generous. The pool is warm and has some shade, though that’s to be expected this time of year.

The staff are amazing and the service is excellent. The cabins are simple, self-contained and clean, and having a microwave in the room is a bonus. There’s a lovely swimming pool, plus an on-site restaurant and pub with good meals. Laundry is done very quickly, though there isn’t a self-service laundry.

We ate here and I had the best burger I’ve had in a long time. The rest of the crew enjoyed their meals too. We played pool, and the accommodation and swimming pool looked nice. It was quiet and tranquil.
