I only stayed three nights and was sorry to leave so soon. My plans changed at the last minute because of the covid outbreak in Sydney, so I stayed in VIC instead. The entry was easy: a code for the main building and a lockbox beside the apartment. After the hairy drive up the mountain in low vis, the spa bath was very welcome, and it was lovely for sore legs after skiing too. The clean, comfortable Studio Apartment had what I needed for basic meals and a drying cupboard. Hotham Central is just downstairs, with Summit Lift, meeting points and Miss Mary’s Bar close by. I’ll definitely try to stay here again.

The staff were great, but that’s about where the positives end. At nearly $600 per night, I expected a 5 star chalet. The website pictures may be outdated, or perhaps they show a rare room. What I got was tidy but dated, hostel-type accommodation above an overpriced mini mart. The room was bare basics, with no bed head, just a motel-style mattress, a cheap table and some chairs. The pots and pans were really dated, and the walls were paper thin. I’ve learnt my lesson. Apart from the location, it’s grossly overpriced.
