The help we got from Julie at the County View Motel and Steve, who owns the Koumala Pub, was a godsend when car trouble forced us to stay longer than planned. They didn’t know us, but both went out of their way to help. We also got to spend time with Julie, the people of koumala, and Steve’s team at the pub. They’re truly lovely country people, so don’t judge the place by its cover. It might look like just a bed for the night, but it’s much more than that. Thank you, Julie. We’re in your debt. God bless. The motel itself is quiet and clean, with spacious rooms for a remote town. They’re cleaned daily and have air conditioning. Pet-friendly places like this are hard to find, so I recommend it if you’re travelling with an animal. Just be mindful that the water comes from a tank and to use it considerately. There could also be more cutlery for families.

Bring your own shampoo and food for dinner and breakfast. Tea and coffee are provided. It’s a quiet spot south of Sarina, and the room was clean and comfortable.

Astrid, the Welsh terrier, settled in straight away. It was a lovely place to stay, with clean, comfortable rooms and great food.

The charge for pets felt very scammy. She asked for my credit card number after I booked, saying she needed it for the booking, but didn’t mention the $30 pet fee. When I asked about the charge, she said it was an extra cleaning fee because of all the fur. I wouldn’t have minded paying if she’d told me upfront. The way it was handled feels like theft. The rooms are old, which I can accept, but not at that price. They don’t leave the aircon remote in the room, so it’s either on and freezing or off and unbearably hot. The Wi-Fi barely works, and they don’t want you to flush the toilets. Only stay here if it’s a last resort.

After we booked through Booking.com, the owner called us directly to raise the price. She also wanted $50 for bringing a dog, even though the place was advertised as “dog friendly”. It wouldn’t have been so bad if she’d been nice about it, but she wasn’t.
