Peppers Silo Launceston

Our room was large, but the furnishings felt basic and done cheaply. It was right behind the elevator shaft, so we could hear the lift moving while in bed. There was only one elevator working during a busy stay, which made trips between the ground floor and our seventh-floor room a patience test. Cleanliness was also below expectations: at check-in, the drawers were full of crumbs and leftovers from previous guests. Housekeeping was too busy to come clean properly, but a polite and efficient young woman from reception took care of it, and we enjoyed chatting with her. The location might be nice if you get a river-facing room. Ours looked onto a parking lot in a grey commercial-industrial area.

We chose the bed and breakfast package, which was good value, and the menu had a great breakfast. The Eggs Benedict especially stood out. This was our second stay, this time in a Tamar River room, the more conventional style rather than a curved Silo room. We’d stayed on the silo side before, but found these slightly cheaper north-side rooms just as good. The room was large and modern, the bed comfortable, and the river views lovely. There’s plenty of free parking, and around five or six restaurants are an easy walk away, with a good range of cuisines and some exceptional meals. I can’t fault the hotel.

The river bar was a nice place to have a drink in the evening, and everyone on staff we met was friendly. Our room was spacious, modern, and comfortable, with a small but tasty room service menu. Parking was plentiful and free, and it was easy to get around on foot or by scooter. We enjoyed staying here as a base for four days of exploring the Launceston region.

The hotel restaurant was a pleasant surprise, better than the nearby options and among the best in town. There are also several cafes and restaurants in the neighbourhood. It’s a little away from the busy centre, but the walk in is nice. I stayed in a rounded silo room facing the river, with plenty of space, a comfortable bed, good sound insulation, a lovely view, and effective air conditioning.
