Jenolan Caves House

The walking tracks around the caves and House were wonderful, with magnificent views and wallabies on the hills whenever we went out. I’d love to return once the renovations are done. We were told the House would soon close for repairs and renovations related to the fires and floods in recent years, particularly damage to the main road under the Grand Arch. I was completely charmed by the property and its surroundings, so being told it was “a bit run down” felt unfair. For a historic place, it was in very good nick. It has its quirks: thin walls, creaky hallway floorboards and peeling paint here and there. I’d have been disappointed if it had been modernised too much or if the antiques and styling had been replaced with current trends. There’s a public toilet around every corner, and the photos and antiques, along with the placards about the colonial settlers who lived in the valley, really get your imagination going. Our beds were clean and incredibly comfortable, with electric blankets for chilly mountain evenings. Housekeeping tidied discreetly without disturbing our things. We had dinner and breakfast in the dining room twice, and every meal was good. Dinner stood out, with live piano music, excellent wine and food options. Everyone on staff was friendly and ready to help.

We had a great weekend here with friends. The staff are amazing, so friendly, and really make the place what it is. Our rooms were comfortable and clean, and both dinner and breakfast were really nice, nothing to complain about. The tours are still amazing too. We’re already planning another trip. Thanks!

My husband surprised me with a birthday trip here, and the place was so beautiful it felt like stepping into a storybook. The cave tours were awesome, and the guides were friendly, fun and knowledgeable. Staff were lovely throughout our stay, genuinely warm and personable. On our last night, they came out with dessert and sparklers and sang happy birthday to me. So sweet. I’d stay again.

The restaurant was the one real bright spot, with live music and good food. The staff were courteous, and the building’s exterior was beautiful, but management seemed to mistake being antique for being dirty and short on facilities. The carpets throughout the hotel were very dirty, stained and moldy. Rooms were missing basic hotel amenities like air conditioning, a refrigerator and a television. The built-in wardrobes and bathrooms were very old and moldy, and the beautiful curtains were unfortunately dirty and untidy. I hope they renovate the hotel properly soon.
