Kalimna Woods Cottages

The room was damp and cold, with a lingering clammy smell. Its single small air-conditioner struggled to heat the place, and it was uncomfortable for the price. The booking had been double-booked by the property. The owner initially wanted us to move to another date at full price, and only offered a discounted move to the next day after we refused. We checked the forecast before accepting: our original date looked great, while the replacement day had terrible weather and almost no outdoor activities. That lost experience could have been avoided. The owner came across as defensive instead of apologetic and wouldn't take responsibility. I can't recommend staying here. Guests should be able to count on their booking, get a fair solution when the property makes an error, and have a dry, warm, comfortable room.

The barking kept us awake all night. I don't know whether the dog belonged to another guest, but it barked constantly. Apart from that, it was a lovely rustic cabin among beautiful trees. Jack was very helpful, and the spa bath and fireplace made things cosy. The play equipment was a nice bonus for my daughter.

The quiet is a big draw, and Lakes entrance is only about a five-minute drive away. I've stayed twice and definitely plan to come back. Jack, the owner, is amazing and happy to help with anything. The cottages are cute and comfortable, with good prices. I especially like having cooking facilities, a wood fire, wildlife and chickens wandering around. It works well for families or couples.

The price is the only positive for me. The site feels rundown, and the basic cottage badly needs a deep clean and an interior upgrade. There were no instructions for the air fryer, air-con or camp stove, and not even a dustpan and broom. I also couldn't find a fire evacuation plan, which seems important in a bushfire-prone area. Extension cords and piggyback plugs were scattered under beds and behind appliances. Free-to-air TV didn't work. If the cottages use sewer tanks, that might explain the smell. The owner's barking dog and crowing rooster were another issue: the dog barked in the early mornings throughout our three-night stay, though at least the rooster went to bed. I wouldn't recommend this place.
