Island Motel Kingscote

The manager left the keys somewhere we could find them since we were arriving after reception hours. We couldn't get in touch beforehand because there was no signal on the island. The service was friendly. The rooms are old, but for the price and location everything is fine. Breakfast is very simple, as you'd expect at a small motel, but it gives you enough morning energy without having to spend time finding food.

The price felt fair for what we got. Our room for two was basic but very cosy, with comfortable beds and a nice, clean bathroom. Wi-Fi and air conditioning were great to have. Breakfast was included, though honestly it was very poor: toast, jams, milk, juice, cereals and instant coffee. We didn't mind.

Shannon was welcoming and helpful, which was a plus. The Christmas Day breakfast offer was also good: cereal, bread, milk, long-life juice and coffee were provided in the room, ready to be picked up the day before, though we didn't take it. We booked last minute because it was Christmas and nowhere else on the island was available. The place didn't look clean or maintained, and seemed untouched for ages. The pool and surrounding area were dirty, and the water was so chlorinated that we abandoned the idea of swimming. There were torn curtains, old blankets, mould in the bathroom, and the bed was uncomfortable and wobbly. When I asked for drinking water, they told me to use the rainwater tank tap, so that was a big no from me. I'll leave it to you to decide whether to return.

The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the location was great. There was even a jacuzzi in the room. Oddly, the cleaners folded the towels beautifully but didn't take out the rubbish.
