The food was the highlight, especially the Scotch fillet. It was juicy, pink and tender in the middle, with a perfectly charred outside, probably the best one I've had. The mushroom sauce was delicious, full of actual mushrooms and there was plenty of it. The chips were crisp, nicely salted and tasted like real potato. Before the meal, the comfy seats, wooden tables, space between tables, friendly staff and good smell made us feel we'd picked the right place. The chef's daughter served me, and I passed on my thanks, but I wanted to make sure the chef, Mum, got the feedback too. Best pub meal I've had in a long time. Well done.

One tip: don't order your starters, mains and dessert all at once, or they may bring all three out together. We went for a midweek dinner and the place was busy, with 50-plus covers. Portions were generous, and our meals tasted good and were good quality. For such a small coastal town, the wine list was good, with local options that offered value, though nothing high end. Not sure why Google asks for room ratings when this is a pub.

We stopped in by chance on a Thursday at lunchtime and would definitely come again. We had our dog with us, and they were happy for us to sit out the back while it was very busy indoors. The lamb curry was $25 and the senior's salt and pepper squid was $20. Both were a good feed for a reasonable price, and there's a salad bar with meals.

We had rump steaks cooked just right, and the meals were good value. The service was friendly and accommodating. We stopped for lunch with our dog, and the beer garden is dog friendly, with undercover and umbrella seating. There's also a small grassy play area for kids, dogs and parties.

There were plenty of tables, and most were filled on a Tuesday evening. We had King George Whiting with chips, crispy chicken wings and flake tacos, all piping hot, freshly cooked and delicious. The friendly service was quick, and the help-yourself salad bar had a good selection of salads and bread rolls. There's also a great range of gluten-free and vegan options. Dining room meal only. Definitely worth trying if you're in Kingston.
