Lake Munmorah Motel

After the wedding we returned to find no one at reception. The phone number displayed there went unanswered, and the room key had simply been left on the counter. Nobody had told us that would happen. We had been at the wedding in Noraville and left at 5:30am the next morning because we couldn’t wait to get out. We’ll never return. The hotel seemed very poorly maintained, and I wouldn’t recommend staying there. The hotel had asked for a review by email, so after our experience I’m obliging. My wife and I were attending a wedding at 2pm, the same time as check-in. We were a little early, at 1:35pm, and asked if we could get in early because my wife and our 19-month-old son needed to change for the wedding. The first young woman I spoke with was lovely and said the room had been cleaned. She checked with her manager, but the older woman launched into an explosive rant, saying “we are not machines” and “Check in is at 2pm”. I politely explained that was okay and that I was only asking because we needed to change, but she carried on. I said there was no need to be rude, then left. My wife had to change her clothes and our son’s in the car.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was no shower gel, but I didn’t think it was worth calling the number provided at reception. I fell on the step in the carpark hallway, and an entry warning sign might have helped. I’d stay again.

Dust and grime fell from the bathroom exhaust fan onto the handbasin every time I used it, so it needs a proper clean. My neighbours had a baby, and I was woken before 6am on Sunday. It might be better to put families in rooms separate from individual guests. Together, those issues have made me wary of booking there again. A clean, quiet room matters to me, and this one was definitely lacking.

The room was good enough for the price and location, and the housekeeping lady was lovely. The manager was rude: he walked right past me when he came into the building and ignored me, speaking only to my husband. I accidentally left my pillow behind, but he didn’t call to ask if I wanted it back. The toilet was broken, as shown in the photo.
