Comfort Inn Balmoral On York

Tim and his staff made our stay great, and the sightseeing tips were awesome. The location is perfect and breakfast is first class. We’ll certainly come back, and I recommend staying here to everyone.

The bathroom was the worst part of our stay. It was extremely dated, with old fixtures, poor cleanliness and an unpleasant, unhygienic feel. It’s baffling that bathrooms are being left in that condition while renovations are happening elsewhere. The room itself felt worn and neglected, with tired furniture and fittings that seemed past their use-by date and didn’t match what’s advertised online. Nothing felt fresh or comfortable. Even with renovations underway, these rooms need far more than cosmetic updates. When we raised the issues, management made no effort to acknowledge or address them, and seems either unaware or unconcerned about the state of the rooms. The property needs a full overhaul and better management oversight. We wouldn’t stay again or recommend it until major improvements are made.

The rooms are filthy, with blood stains on the towels in the photo. The walls are so thin we heard everything from next door and upstairs, including people using the toilet and full conversations. Reception was almost never staffed. When we arrived, we got a message with complicated instructions and several codes to retrieve our key from a nearby safe. The photos are extremely misleading, and the place is run down and tired. This is not a 4 star hotel. I can’t recommend strongly enough that people avoid staying here. I don’t understand how it has so many apparently good reviews.

The booking was cancelled a few days before our stay because we’d been out of phone range a lot. Tim and the staff sorted it out with minimal fuss and included a cooked breakfast to make up for the hassle. Thanks, team. The central location was perfect for an overnight stop at the end of a hike in the Walls of Jerusalem area.
