Coral Cay Resort

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This was by far the worst place I've ever stayed. At first it seemed okay, until I moved the pillow and saw stains on the bedhead that looked like blood or mouldy food dribbled down it. Then I pulled back the doona and found a pubic hair. I moved it further and saw there was no cover or sheet on the bed. The final straw was urine stains all over it, as if someone had stood over the bed and gone to town. We seriously thought about sleeping in our car because we worried we might catch something, but it was late by the time we got back from dinner and we had to be up early. We cancelled the next four days and booked somewhere much more reputable five minutes down the road. I did get a refund for the cancelled nights, followed by a one-paragraph email confirming it and offering a poor excuse for an apology. I don't usually leave reviews, but this one really took the cake.

I booked on arrival at about 9pm while passing through, and the attendant got everything sorted quickly and easily. The room was clean and looked after, parking was plentiful, and the price was great. I’ll stay here again when I’m travelling through Mackay.

We had plenty of room, and our 200 Series LandCruiser with its rooftop tent fitted under the awning right outside. The room was spotless, spacious, and had everything we needed. Dinner was another highlight: the steak was cooked just right, with crisp roast potatoes and a really good classic salad with lettuce, tomato, and beetroot. The food came out quickly, too. Everyone made us feel welcome. Check-in was easy, the receptionist was lovely and bubbly, and the waiter was attentive, polite, and genuinely warm. The young bloke at the bar was friendly and relaxed, which made for a laid-back evening. We loved staying at Coral Cay Resort and would happily come back. Highly recommend it.

The internet was extremely fast and simple to set up, and the room had two TVs, a fridge, and a microwave. Everything was clean, fresh, and tidy. The bed had lots of pillows and was really comfortable, while the shower had great pressure and plenty of hot water. Service was very good, and the staff were helpful and polite. Highly recommend this place.
