Adelphi Hotel

The location is the standout, with shopping, food and entertainment all close by. Melbourne Arts District is around the corner, KINO Cinema is 500m away, and there are dozens of restaurants nearby. The hotel is right above NOMAD, one of Melbourne’s best restaurants. Rooms are spacious and cleaned daily, and breakfast is decent. It’s a decent hotel, but the repeated payment reminders annoyed me. I’ve never had to pay half a room reservation at check-in at a Marriott associated property, then keep getting followed up about the final bill. They had a valid credit card on file, so there was no need to keep reminding me to settle up before leaving. Also, there’s no laundry service or fitness facility.

We had a lovely one-night staycation at the Aldephi Hotel. The room was roomy and beautifully decorated, and the complimentary snacks were a nice touch. The free breakfast was a little underwhelming, and the shower was a bit dirty with some rusty spots, but the location made up for it. It’s right in the middle of the main attractions and shopping areas. We’d definitely recommend it.

I was pretty skeptical before arriving, but it turned out much better than I expected. There’s a free mini bar, and I could ask for a late checkout. It wasn’t the usual 4pm, but I’d expected them to refuse outright. The bathroom was spacious too.

A new owner and a few years have made a real difference to what used to be a stylish, well-kept Adelphi Hotel. Our recent stay was a big disappointment: the rooms were average, and the front-of-house staff seemed disengaged and dismissive. It was a huge contrast with our very positive stay in 2018, almost like Faulty Towers. We won’t be back.
