Best Western Mill Park Motel

The reception staff were easy to talk to, funny and good company. Everyone at Best western seemed hardworking and well trained, and I felt the place was safe. It’s an affordable, decent motel with great service and wonderful people. Nothing went wrong during my stay. I’m not sure why it gets bad reviews.

We booked the family suite for a hockey tournament in Greensborough. The photos didn’t set expectations too high, but the room was a pleasant surprise and better than I’d imagined. The bed wasn’t soft, but it was fine, and the facilities were clean. Reception staff were wonderful. The location is handy, close to takeaway places and supermarkets. I’d stay again.

Location was the one real positive, but we won’t be back and can’t recommend it. We paid over $650 AUD for two non-smoking rooms on a special family trip. We’d stayed here a few years ago and it had been excellent, but this time multiple serious problems came up during the same stay. The rooms were dirty: the linen was dirty, carpets and chairs were stained, the spa was dirty and missing nozzles, and there were worn paint and dirty patches on the doors. Our Executive King Room with Spa also smelled strongly of stale cigarette smoke, despite being a non-smoking room. It didn’t match the advertised photo, with no couch to relax on and no wine or wine glasses. Several lights didn’t work, there were no coat hangers, and the room felt tired and poorly maintained. Rodents scratched and rustled in the roof during the day and night. When we told reception, they said, “we’ll tell the landlords - it’s their responsibility to fix,” without apologizing. The TV also switched itself on around 5am on both mornings. On arrival, Police were removing a neighbouring guest who had trashed their room. Noisy cleaning and repair work continued that afternoon and into the next day. After a long drive from interstate, with a special event the next day, the hotel felt chaotic and unsafe instead of somewhere quiet to rest. An old hotel can still be fine if it’s clean, safe and well managed. This stay wasn’t any of those things.

The rates are great, and I like the family suite with its separate bedroom. The staff are friendly and helpful, and I’m comfortable at Best Western Mill Park. I’ve stayed here many times and haven’t been disappointed; I know what I’m paying for. I’d recommend it for an affordable stay. Cheers.
